CAN I SAY THAT?

San Jose’s Opski Chan is the guy who does the trucks, and he’s kinda nice.

So the story that’s been told a million times about when I first met Opski Chan: he was hanging with one of my East Bay gals, several years ago by now. I happened to be throwing an art show (Sex Love & Money) at Merchant’s Saloon in Oakland at the time. I put him in the show – his first art show – right there and then. Fast forward a few days… The story ends with some tweaker jacking Op’s portrait of Shock G off the bar’s back room wall, running outside to a getaway car, and my ex-boyfriend all but tackling the car and trying to kick his way into it as it sped off. Angel City Brewery

Have YOU been to Angel City Brewery yet??  They had an event called “Street Brewed” that ended on July 10, on view for free during the brewery’s operating hours.  Pints of beer by Angel City Brewing were only $5 during the exhibition’s run, and I believe there were 7 different kinds to choose from…not like some art exhibits where they have the options of Pabst, Tecate, or Budweiser.  The Angel City Vitzen was my personal favorite.  There were nearly 25 internationally known artists that rotated during the exhibition’s run, including Cern, D*Face, Shepard Fairey, Saber, Swoon, and others.  If you liked the MOCA’s Art in the Streets exhibit, you would love “Street Brewed.”  It was the perfect combination of a free art show and delicious beer.  What could be better?!

Jesus Loves Beerijuana

One Wednesday night at the “Beerijuana HQ,” packed into the back of San Jose Rock Shop, band practice starts off as you might expect: beer, marijuana, a conversation about Pho, and Bin Laden jokes (try ordering the Osama next time you’re at a bar: “Two shots and a splash of water” – or, don’t).

What’s unexpected is how well the night is about to go with one of San Jose’s favorite bands. I hid out for a bit and shot some film while they started practice; songs ranged from progressive stoner metal to ear-bleeding thrash.

Spruce up your summer BBQ!

I just thought I’d share some ideas for making that summer BBQ extra special.  I mean, there’s so much more to a burger or hot dog that ketchup and mustard.  While you probably won’t want to use these for both burgers and hot dogs, you can pretty much decide which ones pair the best together.
